Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and bridges are dental restorations used to restore damaged or missing teeth. Crowns are caps that cover the entire surface of a damaged tooth, while bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring to adjacent teeth. They can be a good option for people who want to restore the function and appearance of their teeth.

Who needs Crowns and Bridges

Crowns are recommended for individuals who have a damaged or weakened tooth that cannot be repaired with a filling. They can also be used to restore teeth that have undergone root canal treatment or to improve the appearance of misshapen or discoloured teeth. Bridges are recommended for people with one or more missing teeth who want to restore their smile and bite.

A dental crown is used to repair a cracked, fractured or badly decayed tooth.

Dental crowns are strong and have a natural-looking appearance. You may need two appointments to fit your crown, as it has to be custom-made for your teeth. In the first appointment, your tooth is cleaned and prepared and an impression taken so that your crown can be built. You may be fitted with a temporary crown at this stage until your permanent crown has been made for you. At your next appointment, your permanent crown will be fitted.

I must also thank Dr. Ancuta Tiplic who I was referred to for some specialist treatment and was also very kind and considerate.

FAQ

It is generally recommended to visit the dentist every six months for regular check-ups and professional teeth cleaning. However, the frequency may vary depending on your oral health needs. Your dentist will provide personalized recommendations based on your specific dental condition.

To maintain good oral hygiene, it is essential to brush your teeth at least twice a day using fluoride toothpaste, floss daily to remove plaque and food particles between your teeth, and rinse with an antimicrobial mouthwash. Additionally, adopting a healthy diet low in sugary and acidic foods and drinks can contribute to maintaining optimal oral health.

In the event of a dental emergency such as a toothache, knocked-out tooth, or injury to the mouth, it is important to contact your dentist immediately. They can provide guidance over the phone and schedule an emergency appointment to address the issue promptly. It is crucial not to delay seeking dental care in emergency situations to prevent further complications.

Dental X-rays, when performed with proper safety precautions, are considered safe. The amount of radiation exposure from dental X-rays is minimal, and dentists use lead aprons and collars to protect patients from unnecessary radiation. X-rays play a crucial role in diagnosing dental conditions that are not visible to the naked eye, helping dentists develop appropriate treatment plans.

There are several options for replacing missing teeth, including dental implants, bridges, and dentures. Dental implants are a popular choice as they provide a permanent solution that looks, feels, and functions like natural teeth. Bridges are used to fill the gap between one or more missing teeth, while dentures are removable appliances that replace multiple missing teeth. Your dentist can assess your specific case and recommend the most suitable option for you.
